I have been waiting for post-graduate courses to be advertised at the University of Mauritius… not because they’re the best (they’re simply not), but because they’re the most affordable at Rs 85k for a Masters honours degree…
But I come to think of it… As an IT professional, I work and pay loads of income tax… If only the money you spend on university degrees and courses relevant to prioritised fields could be exempted from your taxable income? That would really encourage people to upgrade themselves. After all, we’re serving the country, the private sector, the pillars of Mauritian economy…

Yeah I think this will be a good incentive for people to get into career and skills development.

Guess what I just found out, postgraduate courses are up to 20% refundable by the HRDC. That means that MBA courses that are recognised by the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) are eligible for that 20% refund after 6 months, provided that the company where you’re working at contributes for the HRDC Levy. Well, it’s not for everyone, but at least those lucky few can benefit from that.

Say 20% off a 300-400k course can be as much as 80k!

There’s a new most affordable university now. Birla Institute of Technology is giving their Executive MBA course at only 56k/year (make 112k for 2 years – 50% less than UOM). Now they sure are a big name in the IT field, but as far as management is concerned, does anyone know?

HRDC reviewed down the refund value to 40% of tuition fees from Jan 2010… Still, I’m going to get about Rs 30k which I can use to fund next year’s fees
