Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi To Be Banned with KavyAnjali - Lack of realistic storyline

Now you might be an ardent fan of Tulsi (Kyun Ki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi) or Kavya/Anjali of Kavyanjali, but have you once use your logic and asked yourself if events that happen in those serials are rational, even for a child? Here are pitiful examples of recent events in these two nonsense serials:

  • KT doesn’t check whom she’s marrying. She is so indifferent to Lakshya that she recognises the hand of Eklavya but doesn’t say anything and willingly marries him. Or that she’s so silly or doesn’t love Lakshya that she CAN”T MAKE OUT THE DIFFERENCE between the hands of Eklavya and Lakshya.
  • One man is arrested for murder in KavyAnjali. Right after the interrogation, he takes out his mobile phone from his pocket and calls the villain. Come on, no murder suspect is interrogated, left in a cell without taking his mobile phone! Doesn’t even happen in Hindi movies…
  • KT’s mehendi comes out in less than 1 day! Means Lakshya doesn’t love him… Or it’s cheap Mehendi from China! 24 hours for your mehendi to disappear? Impossible even for the cheapest brand!
  • Over 25 years have passed but Tulsi and most other characters still behave the same as in the past. Now tell me, can someone who’s sane remain the same for all these years. I mean, she didn’t learn by her experience when she’s supposed to be the heroine role model for house wives… And Mihir?
  • Mihir’s character has changed however, but he still doesn’t trust Tulsi even after years of misunderstanding that would have tought a little child that he should have at least a little trust in his wife… BS… You don’t agree with me? Take a look at other people’s behaviour, especially old ones… No change! It’s impossible, unless you’re mentally sick…
  • The only freshness comes from Eklavya. He’s the only intelligent character in the serial currently. He thinks, plans and acts. Keeps to his word, is consistent. He has a goal, style and real character. Not just people who react to situations like most other people in the serial. Is he the villain? I don’t care, he’s the only sane person in the serial.

Now you tell me, you did see all that if you even watched Tulsi or KavyAnjali at least once. Hindi movies do have characters, unlike these 2 serials. Good Hindi movies (say from the big banners, Yash Raj Films, Farhan Akhtar, Farah Khan, Bhansali etc) all have strong characters and rational situations, just like any good movie from all around the world.

MBC should at least schedule Tulsi at 10 pm everyday instead of the peak hours at 6.30. Instead, local programs should be encouraged in that time slot, or family entertainers that encourage good behaviour. Even putting the local Naya Ayaam would be better than Tulsi.

One exception to Hindi serials on MBC is Astitva. That’s a contrast from the above two. Simran is every shining, has strong character just like other main characters. The storyline flows smoothly, without wasting footage. It’s not the best in the world, but it’s good. I agree that the hero is not heroic (Abhimanyu’s character is so not-manly) but it’s a lot better than watching Tulsi and KavyAnjali!

Hey was just made to watch kavyanjali. My God, the court of law scene is just so unbelieavale. anjali wants to testify but someone else stops her and asks the judge to let him testify first. and the judge accepts and after that, anjali isn’t even made to testify that the judge declares the man who just testified to be guilty. so silly…

  3. bhoot Says:

    Totally agree with you Ash.

  4. Radha Says:

Well, all serials produced by Ekta Kapoor are similar to KSBKBT and Kavyanjali, that is no logic, facts and incidents which are far from reality and loads of nonsense . In fact most star plus serials are always like this…..

And yes Astitva did well in India for the reasons mentioned above by Bhoot.

I really like this post of yours… I havent been in mauritius for the past 2.5 years but i was so so so so hooked up on tulsi that i was still watching it a year after i moved to the UK…God how much did my husband moan abt it…bt poor soul sat n watched it with me…until he got so fed up with the story he completely banned channel 784 (which is Star Plus on Sky) !!!
I have since then discovered a new world of Nat Geo documentaries and programme like strictly come dancing and other nice documentaries about food, recipes or homes etc…i am more fan of the real life tv…(Not Reality tv..I surely dont watch big brother)..
But We love our goood hindi movies esp when we go to the Cinema…its quite cool, I must say i dont miss the serials, as you so rightly pointed out its so full of BS…Ekta Kapoor i think just lot the whole bloody plot….
I prefer old pakistani dramas which always have an end…
This post is so well written..good job,..
Have you noticed that Ba doesnt seem to be growing any older or falling sick despite her age, my hubby thinks she must be at least abt 120 years….!!!!

WHOA! atleast someone who agrees with me!
The whole garbage package has been ailing Mauritian families for some 10 bleeding gory years now!I wonder when they’re gona end that bullshit! Not only does it serve to corrupt the thinking of our elderly generation, for whom television serials are largely a means of education for them, whereby many of them adopt moral ideals and conduct codes, but also the youngest of us…Euthanasia-such a sensitive issue for so many is toyed with like a trivial plaything. Not to mention Tulsi-that pretentious,holier-than-thou,pompous character-playing God with the lives of people. When she’s not slapping people(There’s not one member left in the family who hasn’t gotten one from her),she’s ‘liberating’ people.Reaction style reminds us of Rajnikant, and showing the reaction of each member takes some nice 15 minutes.Ba represents the wonderful survival system of the awesome human species. The retenless come-and-go of characters are nothing to the number of partners they all have-so much for traditional hindu manogamy! And Ah!what to say of the numbers of accidents,enemies,loss-of-memory,plastic surgeries??I’ve lost count-as I’m sure you have too-of them..The family has visited the jails, killed its own members, was involved in scandals such as extra-marital affairs, illegitiamte children(most of them are) and is still ‘one of the most respectable families’ of the town…Finally, have you noticed that the Viranis have more parties and festivals-each accompanying its disaster-than normal days? How awefully…jovial for a family whose very roots are trapped in disaster and routine misery..Some good day,I’m gona raise holy hell over that crap. Why do I watch it at all if I hate it so much, one might ask?
Well,my pc is in the same room as the t.v,and while I’m surfing,my mom goes bonkers on that piece of utter nonsense…!!!=(
