meteo, rain, lallmatie, fog, st julien, hotman

So it was all sunny at work, but it had to be raining when I reached St. Julien d’Hotman. Unbelievable fog on top of that from St Julien d’Hotman – l’Unité – St Julien Village. Never have I seen such a fog in this region. 8 pm, my windshield wipers were used up, they didn’t clean the water well. Though it was a mild shower, I could barely see the end of the road. My bi-halogen projector headlights were covered with dust or grease from the days my car stayed at the mechanic… Should have cleaned them I knew…

Saw my friend’s 1970 car right in front of me. Ah good, he’ll show me the way. But at 25kph, I’m going to stay here so much longer. I decided to overtake, it always feels good to do so. Now the even harder part. Used my memory of the years I drove this road to determine where the road was, each time braking when a vehicle approached in front with blinding headlights…

Finally I reached Lallmatie, the rain hadn’t stopped. Put on the TV, there was meteo, “the weather will be cloudy in the east tonight.” Yes, that’s how precise even current events can be reported by local meteo…

Many times has Meteo removed cyclone warnings just after the concerned cyclone passes the point after which, it would no longer be a threat to Mauritius… You will say it’s perfectly normal. But think about it…

What is the main reason for a cyclone warning class 2? That it’s not safe to send our kids to school! And that doesn’t change even if there still is strong winds and bad weather – even if Gaël is going away! Today should also have been a no school day!

Or better, put up another type of warning - Post-Cyclonic Weather Warning Level 1 and 2. For level 1, there would be work but no school. Level 2 would be no school and no work (or keep 1,2,3 similar to normal cylone warnings)… These would be to enforce that although the cyclone is going away, the weather is still serious and not safe to go dancing outside.

Would it require another dead person for this to happen…
